It’s been a tough end of the year, but still rewarding.

I did a show in Chile the first week of November. The show went great, Todd Potter and I got the crowd on their feet, cheering and asking for more.. I left Chile to get ready for the final stop of Night of the Jumps that will be held in Fortaleza, Brazil on December12th; I’m finally getting back in to my level and I’m pretty sure I’ll be doing pretty good in it, just gotta keep working on my exercises and riding.

I rode the pro demo at the final stop of the AFMXA tour and had lots of fun with all the MOB syndicate crew and some other pros. Later that same night was the 2010 RAMP Awards banquet followed up by the premiere of “On the Pipe 6″ where I have a very good segment. I’m really pumped on it! I also got another good segment coming out on the Endless Sickness video, riding with the MOB at paradise ranch and Pala.

You can also check out Javier Villegas in the Full Length FMX documentary film “FMX and The Life” by Blake Shipman. Here is the trailer.

The First Freestyle Moto-X Clinic

A week ago today marked a big day in FMX history. At Pala Raceway, the AFMXA put together the very first Freestyle Moto-X clinic for all those who want to start jumping dirt bikes off of ramps. This clinic was put together for those of you who have dreams of becoming the next generation of going big and being a part of the future of FMX. The cost of the clinic was $400.00, and not too much considering the value of learning from the best the sport has to offer. The instructors included, Mike Metzger, Chuck Carothers, Sean Chamberlain, Steve Adair, Craig Koback, Beau Manley, and Javier Villegas.

The schedule started with an orientation that lead into The Sports Psychology section which was covered by Sean Chamberlain, an expert in this field. This section went over the mental skills that are vital to an athletes performance, and the importance of mindset when it comes to doing something as dangerous as jumping ramps on a dirt bike.

Next came The Safety First Part that was lead by Firefighter/Paramedic Steve Adair. Going over all the safety measures is of utmost importance when it comes to getting on any off-road vehicle, and wearing the proper safety gear that is required is vital to keeping the sport of FMX one that will continue on for many years to come.

Chuck Carothers briefly went over ‘The How to Market Yourself’ section where he discussed the importance of presenting yourself in a professional manner, and this is true for any sport you plan on reaching a professional status in.

The next topic for the clinic was The Simple Mechanics section which involved Craig Koback, Brian Deegan’s personal mechanic, who went through all the riders bikes to make sure they were safe and jump ready for the actual riding part of the clinic. This was also a time where the riders had the opportunity to ask questions regarding their bikes and the correct setup for jumping big jumps, as well as the standard FMX bike modifications that all the riders need to perform certain tricks of the sport.

Finally the clinic went into The Techniques part instructed by The Godfather himself, Mike Metzger, Chuck Carothers, Beau Manley, and Javier Villegas. This is the part of the clinic where the actual riding goes down, and what better way could there possibly be than actually riding with Mike Metzger? Mike geared up and had the riders watch him and try to follow his speed as he jumped over a ramp set at 30 feet. All the other instructors were standing around watching the riders and helping them as they saw fit.

As with anytime somebody jumps a Freestyle Moto-X ramp for the first time, there was a lot of nervous tension and adrenaline coming from the riders, their families, and even us, the audience… but as each rider got their first jump out of the way as they followed Metzger off the ramp, every jump that followed seemed to come more naturally and we started to see each riders style come out as they progressed and felt more comfortable with jumping the ramps. As the riders felt more confident with jumping, the ramps were moved back and by the end of the day the riders were throwing out double cans and superman seat grabs over the gaps.

The best part of the entire day for me was that nobody crashed or got hurt, and to see the smiles on the students faces was priceless! What an amazing experience to watch as the sport continues to progress and grow. I’m thankful to be apart of this experience and look forward to what all the new riders will have to offer the sport of FMX. I want to give a big shout out to Leah Stiger from The AFMXA who made this whole event possible, who had to deal with all the stresses that FMX can bring, Thank you! Until next year…RIDE ON everyone!

Cheers, Mrs. Metz

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Humboldt County, Calif.’s Julian Dusseau, but while on a few recent video shoots at Jimmy Fitzpatrick’s house and the Metal Mulisha Compound, ESPN FMX’s Cliff Talley spotted the MOB Syndicate rider throwing down in a big way. Dusseau is known for his cool, calm and collected demeanor, but as you’ll notice, his riding is the complete opposite — the man is on a rampage as of late.

Check out this edit of Dusseau going huge off Fitz’s fifth gear pinned ramp jump, as well as throwing down perfectly flat 360′s and an assortment of flip tricks. I’m willing to bet we’ll be seeing a lot more of Dusseau in 2011 and beyond. Check out the link below for the video.

After a two-week hiatus, the Crusty “Thirst 4 Destruction” Tour is back in full force, picking back up in Brisbane this Saturday, November 13. In addition to the solid list of riders (Nate Adams, Mike Metzger, Taka Higashino, Jackson Strong, Kain Saul, Seth Enslow, Matt Schubring, Mike Mason, Beau Bamburg, Adam Jones) that have ridden the first three stops, Metal Mulisha General Brian Deegan will be making the trip overseas to perform for his hoards of Australian fans. Also, unable to ride the first leg of the tour due to broken wrist, Robbie Maddison will be on hand with the intention of riding. It’s still not 100% confirmed, but according to Maddo himself, it is looking promising.

During the two-break between Melbourne and Brisbane, ESPN FMX caught up with Metzger at his “Paradise Ranch” in Menifee, Calif. to get an update on the tour, as well as how it’s evolved since he first rode it back in 1999. Check out the video below in the link.

METZGER- What’s Up?

It has been over a month since I flew to Belgium for the Superbikers SuperMoto race, then onto Perth, Australia for the start of the five stop Crusty Demons Tour. My travels have been good. I got to race with the world’s fastest supermoto racers on the fastest track I have ever ridden. My main goal was to get through the race healthy so I could make it to Australia for Crusty. Racing was a lot of fun but jumping in the shows is off the hook. It’s so cool getting to show off for a sold out stadium and playing around with your buddies on your dirtbikes. Not too stressful.

The first stop in Perth seemed to be the one to figure out the show layout and work out all the kinks. There wasn’t too much to figure out other then the timing of every ones parts and to make sure that the four riders who are introduced as the Original Crustys don’t leave their long black cloaks on top of the lights inside the wrecked cars that we pop out of. After the introduction of Seth Enslow, Matt Schubring, Joel Balchin, and myself, the car that Seth came out of started on fire and the show was put on hold to extinguish it. After the little mishap the show was back in action. Throughout the show the crowd gets to see the International FMX riders that include Nate Adams, Adam Jones, Mike Mason, Beau Bamburg, Taka Higoshino, and I do expression sessions, trains, whip contest, and best X Games Big trick. The Australian field of riders, include Matt Schubring, Joel Balchin, Kain Saul, Jackson Strong, Steve Mini, and Rhys Hillier who was riding in place of Robbie Maddison who is recovering from a broken wrist. During the Perth show, the audience got to see a five rider side by side flip thanks to Nate, Adam, Mini, Mason, and Shcubring. These guys are less than a foot apart off the ramp when serving up this feat. It’s definitely got to be some kind of record. Crazy!!! The fans also get to see Bubba and a few freaks do some circus acts, Kain Saul does a 45 foot back flip on a 500lb. Harley Davidson. Along with Jackson Strong throwing out a front flip. There is truly amazing things going on throughout the whole show.

The second stop in Adelaide had some serious crashes happen. Benny Fiez who goes for a double back flip on a mini bike came up short and cracked his shoulder. Seth Enslow decided to ride the whip contest and came up short which resulted in a knock out when landing on his head and a ripped shoulder. Mike Mason had a get off in practice when going for a back flip seat grab and missed. Considering how bad the crash was, Mike was real lucky getting away with bruised feet, knees, and wrists. On a good note, Jacko landed his second front flip of his career. Way to go!

In Melbourne we rode inside the Rod Laver Arena which is a championship tennis arena. Pretty cool because the fans are hanging over the side railing and are so close to you while you are riding. The coolest thing for me was practice. I started doing double can indy back flips again which I haven’t done in over 5 months while healing from my shattered elbow and broken femur. Being on the Crusty tour and getting to ride with some of the best guys in the world is such good practice. Seeing Nate Adams throwing out 360 flat spin nac-nacs at every event, Adam Jones doing huge KOD flips, Takas double seat grab back flip, Beau Bamburg doing upside down inverted whips, and all the other tricks from everyone else is a serious inspiration to me. It makes me want to ride harder and push myself to learn new things every week or any time I am on my bike.

While I have been gone some of the MOB Syndicate riders have also been putting in there riding and travel time. Brody Wilson went to Montreal, Canada to perform at the supercross, next stop was Latvia where he got a 2nd place finish, then he flew to Manheim, Germany for another round of the IFMXF Championships where he got 2nd and clinched the European Championship. After his return home to Massachusetts, he jumped in his Dodge 4×4 to head to Cali. Today he is riding Paradise Ranch with Rich Kearns, and James Carter before getting back on an airplane to head back to Europe till November 30th.

Javier Villegas took some time off for about 8 weeks to heal up from surgery on his wrist and was back in action when I returned home for a short visit. A few days into riding he had all his big tricks on lock and then had a shoulder pop out of place. Two days earlier Greg Schaaf popped his shoulder out just before flying to Indonesia for a FMX contest. They are both alright and riding again.

Gabriel Villegas was stoked to get his KTM 250 dialed in with the new MOB Syn graphics and has been tightening up all his big tricks for his next event.

Julian Dusseau has been putting in a lot of miles on his dirtbike and vehicle traveling back and forth between northern California where his family lives and Mexico where he has been riding the Xpilot events. Two weeks ago he took home a second place finished behind Jim McNiel and followed by Wiley Fulmer. Good job.

Last week I decided to head home for a quick ten day visit to give my wife and kids hugs since I had a weekend off. While I was home I had a friend pour a 13’X80’ concrete runway for MOB Paradise. I got to ride it with Derek Cook, Rich Kearns, and James Carter the day before heading back to Australia for the 4th round of the Crusty tour in Brisbane. Having the concrete makes it so nice that you don’t have to prep the dirt after every ride or worry about wheel spin. We all had a blast before having to all go our separate ways. Cook had to drive home to Oklahoma, Kearns took off to Spain, and Carter is off on another Boost Mobile Tour in Miami at the NASCAR event and then flys to Argentina Dedc. 2nd.

Now I am back in Australia and my sleeping pattern is whacked. I fell asleep at 4pm and woke up at 3am. Thank God for 24 hour restaurants and strawberry crepes with ice cream. I am looking forward to the Saturday show and getting back on my bike. Oh ya, make sure you check out www.TheMOBSyndicate.com brand new website and don’t forget The Godfather’s Hits Out at Ocotillo Wells Dec. 16-19. See you there.

Good Times!
